OBITUARY ---------------

HARTLEY DENNIS

Redwood City Democrat

March 29, 1894

On Saturday afternoon, Hartley Dennis of Woodside, who met with an unfortunate accident the week before last, while leading a colt across a creek, was brought to Prices’s Hotel, where his leg was amputated above the knee. The operation was skillfully done and performed by Dr. Ross assisted by Dr. Barrel and Dr Miller. Owing to his advanced age, the physicians entertained but little hope of his recovery, although he seemed to rally from the shock, and was more or less cheerful up to the time of his death, which occurred at three o’clock Tuesday afternoon. The remains were taken to the undertaking parlors of James Crowe. Deceased was a native of Maine and aged about 64 years. He came to this county January 7, 1869 settling in Woodside. He was never married and his only relative now living is a brother, Alfred Dennis of San Luis Obispo, and a half sister, Mrs. Sherwood of San Francisco, who was at the bedside when the final dissolution took place, and a half brother named Amos Dennis. His funeral will take place Friday at 2 o’clock under the auspices of the Redman. In his death, the community loses a good citizen and honorable man. Lot 109K
