OBITUARY ---------------

MRS JAMES EDDY

San Mateo Times Gazette

July 9, 1892

Mrs. James Eddy, whose death occurred Wednesday, was the first white woman to come to Springfield, Tuolumne County, arriving there from Hazel Green, Wisconsin, in the spring of ’52. Her maiden name was Amelia East. To her late husband. James Eddy, she was married in 1845 and immediately after came to America. Ten years ago they were so well pleased with Redwood City that they concluded to reside here while they lived. Just 11 months ago Mr. Eddy died. From that time his consort has mourned unceasingly and looked forward with joy to the time of her dismissal and has continued to fail in health, holding herself as in his presence and having communication with her lost. She was often found employed in making preparations for his comfort and for his arrival. She has always spoken 0f herself as going to father (this to her children) and referred to the Supreme satisfaction afforded her in having the children and grandchildren with her. She approached with every manifestation of joy and end of her pilgrimage and simply ceased to live at 6 o’clock Wednesday evening. Her daughter Mrs. Fred Conrad with the children Rosabel and James have been caring for her the last three months, and James Eddy, her son, has likewise helped to brighten her last days. Mr. Conrad was summoned by telegraph but arrived too late to see Mrs. Eddy alive. The funeral occurred on Friday at 9 oclock. Rev. Mr. Nicholas of the Episcopal Church officiating.
