HARVEY KINCAID

Harvey Kincaid, the pioneer lawyer of the county, died at his home in this city Tuesday night after an illness of a little more than a week.

The deceased was born in Platt County, Missouri in 1835, and in 1849 crossed the plains with his parents and settled in Lawrence in Santa Clara County in 1850. He was graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1859 and entered the office of Judge Archer at San Jose for the study of law. In the early 60s he settled in Redwood City and opened a law office. He was married here and two sons Archer and Edward survive him, his wife having died several years ago.

Mr. Kincaid was a brilliant man during his younger years and enjoyed a large and lucrative practice. He served a term as District Attorney in 1870 and was elected State Senator from this county and San Francisco. Later he was associated with Judge Fitzpatrick in a succcssflul practice for a number of years.

He leaves one brother, an attorney in Washington and a sister, Mrs. Swinford, who lives in Santa Clara County.

The deceased will be buried at 2 o’clock this afternoon in Union Cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. S.A. Gibbons, who was his professor during his college days at Santa Clara.
