OBITUARY ---------------ARTHUR MERRILL
Redwood City Democrat
March 5, 1914
Clarence Merrill. postmaster of Berkley, was in this city Tuesday, and arranged with T. C. Rice to prepare a concrete base and erect a stone in memory of his brother Arthur, who died recently in Los Angeles. The two men were the only children of S.S. Merrill, the pioneer druggist of this city and at one time county treasurer, who, with his wife, lies in Union Cemetery. Arthur, the oldest of the sons, desired to be buried with his parents and in 1909, had a stone prepared, and carved with his name, etc. leaving a blank space for the date of his death. This stone was stored away until his death, when a letter prepared for this event was opened and found to contain directions for his burial and the disposition of his remains. In conformity with these wishes of his brother, Clarence visited the scenes of his boyhood for the first time in many years. Plot 149
