CHARLES B PATTERSON

San Mateo County Times and Gazette

June 9, 1888

Charles B. Patterson, a native of Scandinavia and a painter by occupation, fell from the cupola of the new annex to Governor Stanford’s residence at Palo Alto last Monday breaking his neck. He died instantly. Patterson was standing on a temporary scaffolding when a board slipped precipitating him to a marble floor, a distance of forty feet. The fingers, arms, spinal column, and skull were broken. The body was taken to Redwood City and on the following day an inquest was held, the jury rendering a verdict that death was accidental. He was a resident of San Francisco, aged 32 and unmarried. The body was interred in Union Cemetery in Redwood City.
