Fatal gymnasium accident
Fred Rockwell, the young man who was injured while performing a difficult feat on the horizontal bar at the gymnasium last Thursday night, passed away Friday afternoon. During the interval between the accident and his death, he had periods of consciousness. His burial took place Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church, which was thronged with sympathizing friends of the family. The services were begun with a prayer by Rev. F.H. Maar, after which Pastor Gibbons spoke words of hope and consolation to the bereaved relatives. The choir rendered the hymns “Some Day We’ll Understand” “Homeland” and “Good Night’ after which the remains were taken to Union Cemetery for interment.
A long line of companions of the unfortunate young man followed his body to the grave. There were a number of beautiful floral offerings, one particularly noticeable being a representation of “The Gates Ajar” a touching testimonial from his gymnasium associates. The pallbearers were Grover McNamara, Albert Mansfield, Arthur Swift, Arthur Dodge and Roy Curran.
Fred Rockwell was a native of Nova Scotia, aged 17 years and 6 months. He was an industrious young man and a help and comfort to his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Rockwell and family desire to return thanks to their friends and neighbors and particularly to the gymnasium boys for their kind attention during their bereavement
The officers and teachers expressed sympathy to Miss Rockwell with an expressive resolution.
