OBITUARY ---------------

JOHN STAFFORD

Redwood City Democrat

September 7, 1893

John Stafford died at his residence on Stambaugh Street last Friday morning about 3:30 am. His health had not been robust for a year past, although he was walking about town two days before he expired. The immediate cause was general debility complicated by pneumonia. He had been prominent in business and political circles of San Mateo County for a number of years. He served several terms as a Supervisor and was Under- sheriff with Edgar. He was buried Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the AOUW, of which he was a member in good standing. His funeral was very large, having a number in line from a distance. A widow and several children survive him. Mr. Stafford had many loyal friends in his life time and they were present in large numbers to attest their sympathy at death. The pallbearers were ex Senator James R. Turner, P.P. Chamberlain, County Treasurer, J.C. Edgar, Deputy Warden of State Prison, Supervisors W.B. Lawrence and H. B. Adair, Geo W. Fox.
