SPRING CLEANUP 2018

We had a good group of people this year! Our jobs were to...
  • pull ivy from near the fences
  • pull weeds on the paths, and
  • pick up glass near the gate.
It was a warm day, and I got water out of the Windmill for everyone. Our wheelbarrow came in handy, as we gathered all the piles of ivy/garbage/sticks/etc.

In the end we had THIRTEEN BAGS OF GARBAGE for the Recology people to haul away. (I actually had to send them away the first time they arrived, since we were still cleaning, cutting, and hauling.)

First to arrive was this family of 3, and so they got ivy-pulling detail. Thanks to
  • Katelin
  • Brian
  • and Linda
for helping to keep the ivy just near the gate at-bay!

Mext to arrive was a group from St. Edwards School. They were the 2nd group deployed on the ivy slithering over/under/through the fence from the next door Nursery.
  • Belinda
  • Kara
  • Winchell
  • Noah
  • Aaron

The 3rd group to arrive ALSO got ivy detail, but ended up prowling the walkways, looking for weeds. . This group was from the Redwood City Youth Advisery Board. They are:
  • Tracy
  • Jodi
  • Avery
  • Sydney

The next group was from Kainos. I spied them walking along Woodside Road, picking up garbage. I hustled down to invite them inside the fence. They had picked up a LOT of garbage outside the fence. Inside, they concentrated again garbage but also larger sticks.

This group stayed to the bitter end of the cleanup time - they were great workers.

THANK YOU Kainos!

  • Heather
  • Robin
  • Laura
  • Guisel
  • David

Next I spied Billy James, working quietly all by himself, picking up garbage. I don't know when he arrived, but there he was, working hard. He had great stories to tell me. What a character!

Last but not least was this great family. They decided to tackle the ivy on the back fence. The going there was pretty tough, and I got them some loppers from the Windmill to help. (I made Israel promise to give the loppers back to me, and sure enough, he did). They are:
  • Ola
  • Leticia
  • Israel
Thanks very much! You did a great job on that last ivy. And little Leticia is just too cute!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Here is our group picture. In this picture we are DONE!!! and about to head back to the Corp Yard for the BBQ.

We are posing around our 13 (count 'em) garbage bags, but you can't even see them because so many of us stayed to the end of the cleanup time!

I also want to thank ...
  • Kathy Klebe (HUCA BOARD) - helped organize volunteers near the gate, and spent most of the day picking up glass.
  • Roy Klebe (HUCA BOARD) - Was present to catch the first arriving helpers, and was prepared to stay until the bitter end, if need be.
  • Redwood City, its Pride and Beautification Committee, and especially RWC's Parks 'N Rec Department for agreeing to come pick up all the garbage bags (13!) we generated
