SPRING CLEANUP 2016

The ground was still wet from the previous day's Spring Showers, so the ivy pulling was relatively easy. However, it was still a tough job.

This great crew pulled all the ivy from around Melchoir Duerst's unusual marker and then moved down the road to straighten James Greer's environs. We pulled a LOT of ivy (as you will see from the pictures below.)

Here is the whole group after working on Melchior Duerst's ivy:
  • Back Row, L->R
    • Annette
    • Barbara
    • Carlton
    • Dave
    • Annette
    • Jose
    • Pamela
    • Gerardo
  • Front, L->R
    • Sandra
    • Abby

Here are the folks from the Morman Helping Hands:
  • Annette
  • Jose
  • Alexandra
  • Gerardo
  • Pamela
  • Jorge (who was a master with the clippers..)
THANK YOU HELPING HANDS!

And these are the folks from the Woodside High School Octagon Club:
  • Sandra
  • Barbara
This is the Octagon Club's 2nd time helping in the cemetery.

THANK YOU OCTAGON CLUB!

Here is a candid shot of us working. That's Carlton with the yellow vest in the foreground on the left. This is his THIRD time helping on cleanup day.

THANK YOU CARLTON!

Another candid shot as we worked. This was down near the James Greer headstone. Look at all that ivy we pulled! And this was just half of it! Some of it had stems/trunks(?) about two inches wide! I'm not sure it has ever been pulled from this location before.

I also want to thank
  • Abby Eller from the Historic Union Cemetery Board. Abby was in the cemetery early, organizing the folks who arrived before I did. She also gave a presentation on Simon Mezes to the group after we were done.
  • Redwood City, its Pride and Beautification Committee, and especially RWC's Parks 'N Rec Department for agreeing to come pick up all the dead ivy. :)
