FALL CLEANUP 2016

As usual, we met at the RWC Corp Yard at 8:30. When we divided up into "teams", this time it looked like there would be a LOT of people going to the cemetery.

I had scoped out 3 projects: the Brambles, the returning ivy, and general garbage pickup.

THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO HELP TODAY!

Notes:

  1. If I did not identify you, or your group, or spell your name correctly, - anything! - please let me know, and I will fix it.
  2. If you were there, and I did not get a picture of you and your group, please let me know! I think I got everyone, but I'm not sure....

Below is a very large group from the Inglesia Ni Christo - Church of Christ, on 3rd Ave. in RWC. They are shown here with only 3 bags of ivy, but by the end of the morning there were bags everywhere!

THANKS to

  • front row: Edward, little Angelo
  • 2nd row: Andres, Melody, Lelia, Leonise, Nenita, Marcalina, Joy, Katelin, Brittany
  • 3rd row: Reuben (in the hat)
  • Back Row: Carlo, Marcelino, Richard, Adam, Nora, Joy (#2), Marielle, Gabriella

Here is a second group that attacked the ivy (we have a lot of ivy). Some of them I recognize from the Woodside Octagon Club. We were a little short on clippers and loppers and Nick (on the left) wished he'd known, so he could have brought some from home.

THANKS to:

  • Nick
  • Elizabeth (official lopper'er)
  • Sandra
  • Paulina
  • Lee

Did I say we were short on clippers? Elizabeth went home and came back with hers for us to use! Wow! We couldn't have done such a great job on the ivy without Elizabeth and her clippers/loppers. I sure hope she got them all back. Elizabeth: here's a picture of everything you brought. If you are missing anything, email me.

SO, we owe a BIG THANK YOU to

  • Elizabeth

Some of the Chirch Of Christ kids broke away from the ivy pulling group to pick up garbage with our garbage-picker-upper-thingies. They were working, but I made them sit down for this picture.

THANKS again to

  • Katelyn
  • Marielle
  • little Angelo
  • Andrew
  • Edward

Here's a group from Woodside High School's Octagon Club /Green Academy showing a FEW of the bags of dead leaves they pulled. They look like they were having fun. It must have been the spiffy blue gloves provided by RWC.

THANK YOU to:

  • Back Row: Holly, Claudia, Laviah, Fernanda, Laura
  • Front Row: Kayla, Andrea, Alondra, Carla

And now for the cuteness factor (as if little Angelo wasn't enough): Ella and Elio were off doing their own thing, picking up garbage. Elio was a bit shy, but when he took the picker-upper-thingy he could point it off into the distance like a pro. I also like how the orange vest fits him.

THANKS to Ella for bringing Elio to the cemetery and picking up garbage with him!

One of our goals for the day was to cut the brambles in the Philpott plot. Abby, a member of the HUCA board, offered to take on this project. Boy were we surprised when we arrived at the cemetery and found that most of the brambles had already been cut!

Nevertheless, the crew spent the morning on this plot, cutting the remaining brambles, and making sure all the rest of them were cut below the soil line. And they took special care to not damage the rose at the back. THANK YOU "BRAMBLERS"...

  • Laura
  • Maria
  • Abby
  • Katie
