SARAH P. DOUGLASS

Death of Mrs. Sarah P. Douglass died at the home of her son in Palo Alto last Wednesday evening at the ripe old age of 68 years. She was a native of Ontario County, New York. Mrs. Douglass and her husband crossed the plains in the spring of 1850 and soon after settled in Mountain View, being the first American residents of that place. Later they moved to Redwood City and in subsequent years lived at Woodside, La Honda and again in Redwood, Five years ago they moved to Palo Alto.

Mrs. Douglass was a woman of noble character and was much loved by her acquaintances. Her husband, who is in feeble health, survives her, and also two sons, William and George of Palo Alto and two daughters, Mrs. Morris of Palo Alto and Mrs. Milham of San Jose.

The funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning in the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Wilfred Kent officiated at the church and the grave. The remains were interred in Union Cemetery.
