OBITUARY ---------------

JOHN H. EBERLE

Redwood City Democrat

Thursday, Nov 28, 1918

Many pay homage to dead soldier.

Funeral services for John H. Eberle, Redwood City boy, who passed away in the service at South Bend, Washington, November 18th, were held Sunday afternoon from the parlors of the Redwood Undertaking Company on Broadway. Hundreds of relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to the young man who had given his all for his country. Rev. C.H. Stevens, pastor of the Congregational Church, conducted the services and a full choir of the Congregational Church sang. Rev. Stevens gave a most touching eulogy, dwelling upon the fine and manly life the young soldier had led and the noble sacrifice he had made. The following boyhood friends of the deceased acted as pall bearers: Frank Allain, Howard Beck, Chas. L. Kenney, Claude Genochio, Antone Patrick, and Will Stott.

The casket was draped in the American flag and was surrounded by many beautiful floral pieces, among which was one representing “Gates Cyar” sent by the members of the Redwood boy’s company in the aviation service at South Bend. The Interment was in Union Cemetery, short services being held by Rev. Stevens before the remains were lowered to their last resting place in the family plot.
