WILLIAM HUGHES

William hughes, the wealthy pioneer lumberman, died at his home here Saturday morning after a long illness, at the age of 75 years. Mr. Hughes came to this state from his birth place in Maine more than 50 years ago and almost immediately went into the lumber regions where he gradually acquired large tracts of timber land until he had amassed a fortune estimated at over $200,000. Some time ago he retired from active business but retained the position of vice-pres. of the Redwood City Commercial Bank of this city. He is survived by a wife and daughter, Mrs. Dr. Asa Collins of S.F. The funeral was under the auspices of Redwood Lodge F and AM of which he was a prominent member The interment was in Union Cemetery.
