December 18, 1943

One of the pioneer figures of San Mateo county, Miss Annie Laurie Sears, 84, died at her home at La Honda last night after a long illness. Miss Sears, who had lived in La Honda for the past 82 years, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sears, founders of the town of Searsville, below Woodside, now at the bottom of Searsville Lake. Miss Sears' parents built the old rambling Sears Hotel.

Miss Sears is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Lydia Grant, wife of Cap Grant, San Mateo county engineer, and Mrs. Ethel Austin, of Honolulu; and two nephews, William E. Sears, and Harry D. Sears, both of San Francisco. Services will be held next Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock at the chapel of Franklin & Crowe. Interment will be in the old family plot at the Union Cemetery here. The Union cemetery is reserved to old pioneer families who purchased plots when the county was first built up. Miss sears has some fourteen pioneer relatives buried there.
