JOHN ELVIN

Redwood City Democrat

Died at this home in this city after a long illness, John Elvin, a native of Cornwall, England, ages 72 years. He was a resident of this city for nearly fifty years and one of the most respected citizens. He was married forty-two years ago to Marie Descartier at the Selby home in San Francisco, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Gould being in attendance at the wedding. Mrs. Elvin died a year ago. When the deceased came to this section he, engaged as a ship builder for the Athertons, Selbys, Ralstons and many other large property owners of the vicinity and many of the fences now standing around the handsome old residences of Menlo and Fair Oaks. After a long and vigorous life, some years ago, he was attacked by an incurable disease and has been conlined to his room ever since. The deceased is survivcd by five sisters who reside in England and a family consisting of Mrs. J. T. Ralston, Mrs. E. Bangle, Mrs F. W. Abbott, Mrs. W.H Worth, Frank, John, Arthur, Ferdinand, Theodore and Reuben Elvin and ten grandchildren to whom the sympathies of all who know the deceased is extended. The funeral will take place today at the late residence of the deceased at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
