OBITUARY ---------------

MRS. MARIE D. ELVIN

Redwood City Democrat

Aug 15, 1907

Mrs. Marie D. Elvin, one of the oldest and most respected residents of this city passed away at her home on the 7th instant. Although she had been ill for some time, her death was unexpected, as it was thought her illness was not serious. A sudden change for the worse took place on Wednesday evening however and she rapidly sunk until the end came quietly at a late hour.

Mrs. Elvin was a native of Switzerland, 65 years of age and when quite young came to this country. She was married to John Elvin, who survives her, forty one years ago in San Francisco by Rev. John Hemphill, the bride at that time being instructor in French to the younger members of the Atherton Family. Soon after this time, the young couple moved to this county and they made their home and raised a large family here. The deceased was a kind woman, a good neighbor and a loving mother whose greatest joy in life was to be with her children and bring them up in the way in which they should go. Besides her husband, who for some years has been suffering from rheumatism and is quite feeble, the following sons and daughters: Mrs. John Ralston, Mrs. Edward Bangle, Mrs. Wm Abbott, Mrs. W. Worth, Frank, John, Arthur, Ferdinand, Theodore and Reuben.

The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased by Rev. Mr. Ruge of the Episcopal Church on Saturday and the interment took place at Union Cemetery.

Mr. John Elvin and family extend their heartfelt thanks to their many friends and acquaintances and particularly to hose Company No. 3, Court Madrone No. 158 Foresters of America, and to the Carpenters Union of Half Moon Bay.
