OBITUARY ---------------

JOHN LINDQUIST

Redwood City Democrat

June 4, 1903

John Lindquist, a farmhand at the Alpine, lived a full week, while suffering from injuries that would in half the time caused death of an ordinary man. His sudden at Gliolis ranch Sunday night aroused suspicion and his body was taken in charge by coroner Crowe, who took steps to investigate his death. Dr. Ross held an autopsy on the body and ascertained that three ribs of the deceased man had been fractured, the jagged end of one piercing the left lung causing pneumonia.

It was further ascertained that Lindquist received his injuries at MayÍield one night by being brutally kicked or beaten by three men named Pete and Ed McCormick and John Soto. Lindquist visited Mayfield on the Saturday previous and after paying a few debts visited the saloons of the town and drank heavily displaying the money he had brought with him.

Sunday evening he went to Telmont’s Saloon and at a late hour went out the side door into the alleyway. The barkeeper, John Lindstrum had occasion a little later to go out and went out the same side door and found Lindquist lying on the ground apparently dead.

He was brought into the saloon and in a short time regained his senses and said that after going out the door, a man climbed over the gate which separates the alley from the street and knocked him down. Before he lost consciousness two other men came in through the gate and commenced to kick him. The following day he identified his assailants, who were arrested at the inquest, when Lindquist’s death was ascertained.

Dr. Ross went to San Jose yesterday and testified at the examination of the accused.

They will be held to answer to a charge of murder. x

Lindquist’s body was buried in Union Cemetery yesterday.
