OBITUARY ---------------

CHARLES DAHLEN

Redwood City Democrat

August 21, 1913

Charles Dahlen collides with auto and is killed.

Charles Dahlen, a well known and esteemed employee of the Frank Tanning Company was killed Friday evening at the junction of Maple Street and Railroad Avenue. Dahlen was on his way home, riding a bicycle when he collided with au automobile owned by C. A. Hooper and driven by Michael Reynolds. Dahlen’s neck was broken and his death was instantanious.

Reynolds testified at the inquest Monday that he was not speeding at the time of the accident, and Mrs. Beatty, who was riding in the machine, gave similar testimony. It is possible that Dahien, who had that day received a message from his home in Sweden, announcing the death of his brother, was so occupied with his thoughts, that he rode into the machine, not noticing its approach.

The deceased was interred in Union Cemetery Sunday by the Odd Fellows. Charles Dahlen was a native of Sweden, aged 50 and had resided in this city for a number of years. He was unmarried. He was a member of Bay View Lodge of Odd Fellows Encampment and the Rebekah lodge.

Reynolds is said to be a careless driver, although no blame has been attached to him for this accident. The city officials have on several occasions had to admonish him to be more respectful of the speed regulations.
