OBITUARY ---------------SIMON I. KNIGHT

Afler an illness of long duration, S.I. Knight gave up the struggle for life and passed into the realms of the unknown last Friday, January 31, at his home in Woodside. He was a native of Maine, aged 68 years and 5 months. Few men were better known than the deceased. Simon Knight arrived in San Francisco in 1852 and went to the mines in Tuolumne County. He came to San Mateo County in 1853, and settled in Woodside, where he engaged in lumbering and other pursuits. For ten or twelve years he was Wells Fargo & Co.’s agent at Redwood City. His career as a stage man in San Mateo County covered a period of thirty-two years. He was a member of Bay View Lodge of Odd Fellows and Redwood Lodge AOUW. The funeral took place from the Congregational Church, Woodside, Sunday afternoon, Rev L.D. Rathbone officiating. The interment took place in Union Cemetery, and the long line of carriages which followed the remains to their resting place attested the esteem in which he was held by his neighbors.
